Another new bloke

Postby newsh on Fri Nov 30, 2007 7:23 am

Hi all! Just got my first trail bike, KTM450
Been riding many years but never off road so I'll be looking to get on some runs to find out what its all about. Could do with some advice on gear, I have a Textile jacket with armour and I've ordered some motoX pants, will a good pair of road race style boots be ok till Santa arrives? Do I need a motoX helmet and goggles ? Or will my old RX7 Arai be ok for now?

Thanks
John

John,

I would recommend MX boots, there are many rocks, and tree stumps out on the tail, and they also protect you when you fall off.

MX helmets & goggles are recommended, but you could use your road helmet until you buy a mx one.

Knee & elbow guards/protectors are also recommended.

Drop me a line @

Thanks Steve, email sent.
There's some O Neal boots on ebay fairly cheap (60 - 70 quid) are these any good?
Would you buy slightly bigger for thick socks and an insole?

I dont know, I tend to use Alpinestars. Do they look as if they have good protection? If so they should be ok.

Yes buy them on the larger size, so you can wear waterproof socks or thick socks.

cheers

I went and tried on the Sidi boots that I wanted at a local shop to check sizing and then waited for a pair to turn up on Ebay which they did a few weeks ago :D

I ordered the O Neals on ebay, cheap enough and seem very solid, going to take some breaking in though as they seem to push on my ankle bones.. Not very flexible for gear changing either. I imagine they will be ok once they've been wet a couple of times.
